Hi, I’m Rob, owner and operator of Off The Eaten Path Catering and Smash Juice Café. As a 40 something year old male, I have struggled with getting older, losing energy and gaining weight. Just like you, I have searched for the magic elixir to give me energy, maintain weight and find blissful peace in the midst of my hectic daily routine. You might be shaking your head affirmatively, as you too might be looking for a reliable source to make a change in your life.
If you are reading this, you most likely have also looked, read and watched for solutions, only to find later that “reliable” sources have a hidden sales agenda. Perhaps you heard about the recent questions regarding certain food products or wonder if that TV doctor is trying to help you or their bottom line. I get it and I get you, because I am you.
I am a father, son, brother, friend and everyday guy with zero medical degrees on my wall; I have been a certified trainer and lifelong athlete and health enthusiast. What I do have is a thirst for knowledge and truth - always has it and always will. As a teenager over 20 years ago, I started lifting weights, taking supplements and juicing fruits and veggies. I worked as a personal trainer having trained many clients and friends. Today, I own a catering company and cold-pressed juice concept. The main thing I can tell you is that many of the so-called nutritional and workout truths I learned as a young man have proven to be false or inaccurate, thus necessitating overall lifestyle changes.
To be transparent with you, I didn’t have any energy issues before turning 40, but I did struggle with weight. In fact, I didn’t notice my energy drain until I started my own company. Whatever the reason, we all have things that challenge our energy levels.
So why am I writing this blog? I have wanted to share what I was learning for years, but I wasn’t ready until now. While running my companies for the last few years, I have listened to clients, constantly researched and consequently, made many lifestyle changes. I now have a story that I need to get out and the purpose is to share my learning with others. I want to offer assistance and a voice they can trust.
My path started in 2010. From an outside perspective, I looked to be in the best physical condition in my life. I was 6’2”, 190 lbs. and 7% body fat. Yet, this is when I almost passed away from several factors, including stress, bad diet, lack of sleep and overall disregard for my health. Now is not the time to tell the entire story, but suffice it to say that my heart stopped while I was in Cancun and I came back with the tools to become a better me. I am not ready to share the entire story, however that day was the day that I realized I needed to make many changes. Transformation did not however happen overnight. Furthermore, it is important to note that everyone incorporates change at a different rate of speed, but it always takes time and we need to be patient with ourselves. Change is a mental challenge, as much as a physical adjustment, so one needs to forgive oneself in order to stay on the path of progress. Allow yourself to be an observer in your life. Watch yourself grow and be your biggest cheerleader and your fairest critic. You will come to appreciate the challenges and be fond of these memories when you are further down your path.
Ready? Ok, let’s do this . . .
So what will you learn on this blog? Let me keep it simple. You will learn what I learned and am continuing to learn. From my unbiased voice, you will learn about diet tips, recipes, cooking techniques, exercises that work and don’t work and spiritual homeostasis. Basically, anything I find that is good for you inside and out. You can watch me struggle with yoga or trying a new dish. I will try new products, techniques and trends that people are trying. Basically, I will be your test dummy, but not your corporate marketing dummy . . . I will not buy into the hype. You will get my true and honest opinion.
What you won’t find here… boring foods, techniques or strict diets. That is no fun and nobody has time for that.
I believe in moderation in eating, exercise and enjoying life. We only get one go at this, so why not enjoy it?! If we do the right things most of the time, we can have fun here and there with what we eat. If you are like me, in the past, I spent more time eating store bought and unhealthy restaurant options. This caused toxicity in my system. We will remove those toxins, so when we do “cheat,” our body is ready for it and removes it quickly. I will equip you with the knowledge and habits to combat toxins and energy “zappers” that can lead to illness. Your new habits will assist you in living a balanced life.
Come join me on this path and share your thoughts and things you find that work for you. Let’s get off the eaten path and create our own journey that works for us.
